Warriors Surge In Second Half, Defeat Cougars 13-7

Orlando, Fla. - The West Orange High School varsity boys’ lacrosse team defeated University High School, 13-7, Thursday night on the road. The Warriors (2-1) came back from a 6-3 halftime deficit to outscore the Cougars (0-3), 10-1, in the second half.

Senior midfielder Chip Mitchel led the Warriors with three goals and three assists. He was aided by fellow senior middie Alex Gordon, who added three goals and two assists. Gordon continued to dominate at the face-off and in ground balls, with a game-best 15 GB’s and eight face-offs won.

Sophomore attackman Dan Crayner placed a game-best four shots in the goal in his first start of the year. Sophomore attackman Davis Hughes scored his first two goals of the season, while sophomore attacker Gian Rios added one goal and three assists. Sophomore middie Ted Dundas, in his first game ever, provided a spark off the bench in the second half. Dundas’ hustle led him to two assists and nine ground balls in his debut.

The Warriors’ defense stepped up, as well, in the second half. Junior goalie Garrett Wise had a good game, ending with 15 saves, including 12 in the second half. Junior LSM Anthony DiDio led the d-poles with 10 GB’s, and sophomore Brian Sewell was another added spark for the Warriors off the bench in the second half with four GB’s and an assist.

The Warriors will continue their four-week road trip with a game Friday, Feb. 15, at Hagerty High School in Oviedo, Fla. The JV Warriors will play at 6 pm. with varsity taking the field at 7:30 pm.
