Warriors Defeat 'Noles, 13-7Posted Tuesday, March 18, 2008 by Bill Baker Sanford, Fla. - The West Orange Warriors defeated Seminole High School Monday night, 13-7, in Sanford. The Warriors rallied late in the game, outscoring the 'Noles 6-0 in the fourth quarter, to secure their sixth victory of the year. WO played catch-up all night, not taking the lead until the 10:02 mark in the fourth quarter. The Warriors ended the night outscoring the ‘Noles, 8-2, in the second half. West Orange was led by sophomore attackmen, Dan Crayner and Davis Hughes, who scored a combined 13 points. Crayner was impressive with three goals to go along with four assists. Hughes turned in a game-high five goals and added an assist. Fellow sophomore attacker, Gian Rios, chipped in with one goal and two assists. Senior midfielders rounded out the scoring for the Warriors. Chip Mitchel scored three goals and added two assists, while Alex Gordon assisted on four goals. Gordon also controlled the face-off X, winning an impressive 11-of-15 face-offs. Sam Cappleman added a goal to the Warriors’ tally on the night. The Warriors’ defense started out shaky in the first half before righting the ship and shutting the ‘Noles down to only two goals in the second half. Both goals for Seminole in the second half came on a two-man advantage. Junior Taylor Neu led a d-poles with 10 ground balls and was assisted with great play by his fellow close defenders, sophomores Graham Feland and Tanner O’Dell. LSM Brandon Gomez hustled all night and locked down Seminoles’ midfielders. Junior goalie Garrett Wise had a strong showing on the night, stopping 10 of 17 shots on goal (.588 save %). Wise saved five goals in the third quarter, ending the ‘Noles’ second-half run. The Warriors will complete their district schedule on Tuesday, March 18, as they host East Ridge. JV will play at 6pm, followed by varsity at 7:30. |
